6 Sigma is a systematic and strategic approach to problem-solving. In essence, it requires a rational understanding of problem areas, detailed process review and analysis, identification of root cause and prescribing of effective solutions that result in sustainable benefits for the company. As business grows, I cannot emphasize enough the need to focus on cost efficiency and constant review of processes to ensure that we are | continuously operating at optimum level.
An example of an on-going 6 Sigma project is the CPS (Caterpillar Production System) launched in May 2009. Its main focus is the identification of time and material wastage areas and introduction of 15 Guidelines to improve efficiency and ultimately enhance customer satisfaction.
Over the years, we have been able to recognize many successes from the 6 Sigma initiatives. Projects such as those involving a study of response time to customers’ after-sales service and Hubei team’s ingenuity in overcoming communication problems between the maintenance team and service locations are examples of success stories that has earned LSHM recognition, culminating in LSHM being awarded top prize at the 6th CAT Asia-Pacific 2008 6-Sigma Project Contest. | We should not “rest on our laurels” with this recognition, but constantly strive to leverage the 6 Sigma platform to drive efficiency at every level of our business.
To date, we have a professional team of 7 full time 6 Sigma Black Belt champions and more than 400 employees, representing 30% of our workforce, have received the 6 Sigma Green Belt training. We are committed to building an extensive team in support of LSHM’s growth and expansion.
At LSHM, we have made it our commitment that all managers be fully conversant with 6 Sigma, learn about CPS and adopt a continuous improvement mind-set in all our endeavors. It is our belief that efficiency can only be derived through relentless focus and attention to all processes that are the foundation of our business success! |
