  • MPP HUB
  • HEAVY-DUTY PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY
    The MPP is developed for heavy-duty applications with the pitch setting hydraulic servo cylinder in the hub. The hub lubrication system is a unique oil circulating system with an integrated moisture monitoring system. This is the first hub system in the shipbuilding industry where the moisture content is constantly checked, making it possible to protect the entire propeller system as well as the environment.

    To improve flexibility for ships with twin propeller installations, Caterpillar Propulsion added feathered features to the MPP hub. In feathered position, the blades are aligned with the flow, resulting in minimum resistance. In slow steaming mode within screw configuration, one engine can be shut off and the blades can be turned to feathered position.
    For a typical coastal tanker, shutting off one engine would mean a reduced speed of only about 20% in ideal weather conditions while reducing the input power by 50% (see the diagram to the right).

  • MTA
  • The Azimuth Thruster System is a steerable thruster with a custommade controllable or fixed pitch propeller. The thruster unit is available in both L-drive and Z-drive configurations.

    CORE PROPERTIES
    Meeting customer preferences has been key to the development of the Azimuth Thruster. It is available with controllable or fixed pitch propellers, and in either Z- or L-drive configurations; it can be powered by any power source, and its turning system can be either electric or hydraulic. The blade and hub materials are either bronze or stainless steel.
    HYDRODYNAMICS
    Caterpillar Propulsion continues to focus on hydrodynamics in design, using modern tools such as CFD (ComputationalFluid Dynamics) to optimize the hydrodynamic performance of our products. These tools are used to develop structures that achieve the lowest possible resistance and the highest possible functionality.

    REDUNDANT LUBRIFICATION SYSTEM WITH MOISTURE MONITORING
    The thruster lubrication oil circulation is handled by two full capacity pumps for redundancy and thereby reliable performance. In the CPhub itself, oil is circulated by a controlled leakage from the hydraulic system, also with two full capacity pumps, to the lubrication system. Thanks to this constant flow, the oil condition can be monitored for moisture, be cooled and filtered. Furthermore, the oil condition is displayed continuously on the control panel on the bridge.

    STRUCTURAL OPTIMIZATION
    Caterpillar Propulsion uses finite element structural optimization schemes to optimize the structure. The structure is designed to maximize lifetime, and it is analyzed both statically and dynamically.
    MAXIMIZED EFFICIENCY BY CENTERING THE NOZZLE
    In reality, when all tolerances are considered, it is impossible to perfectly center the propeller without adjusting the nozzle position. However, by using our unique mechanism for moving the centre of the nozzle to coincide with the centre of the propeller, a regular and even gap can be created between the nozzle and the propeller. The result is zero losses in nozzle and propeller efficiency as well as minimized nozzle wear and tear.

    Our nozzle attachment makes it easy to mount and dismount the nozzle – this is advantageous both at the installation stage and in service.

    RELIABLE PROPELLER SHAFT SEAL WITH GOOD SERVICEABILITY
    Using a reliable 4-lip shaft seal with HML-coated liner, long-term sealing performance will be achieved. The shaft seal is constantly fed with circulating pressurized lubrication oil that can be separated from the lubrication system in case of contamination.
    This functionality increases the life of the seal material by continuously cooling the shaft seal and allows separate monitoring of the shaft seal oil moisture content. Owing to a shrink-fit mounted propeller hub flange and a split rope guard, it is possible to service the entire propeller shaft seal without dismounting the shaft from the thruster. This enables simple and fast MTA service. Rope guard, net cutter, and wire winder are included as standard and dirt barrier as an option.
    CONVENIENT OIL DRAINING
    Lubrication oil is supplied at the bottom of the thruster. As well as achieving good circulation and cooling performance, this makes it possible to drain lubrication oil or take oil samples from inside the vessel.
    LONG LIFE NON-POLLUTING 3-LIP AZIMUTH SEAL
    The unit features one sealing lip facing inwards – towards the oil, and two lips facing outwards – towards the water, plus a dirt barrier protecting the water lips. Between the inward and outward lips, there is a void space. Any water or oil that leaks into the void space between the water seals and the oil seals is conveyed to an inboard container, with a readable gauge. Thus, seal condition is monitored and unexpected damage / breakdown can be avoided by planning for repair at the first possible convenient dry-docking. The life of the seal liner is extended by developing an intelligent sealing solution which comprises a spacer that allows for two different seal positions on the liner.
    CLASSIFICATION
    The MTA meets the requirements of all major classification societies.

  • 1、RCS 3000 REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEM
    The RCS 3000 is a digitally programmable control system for maneuvering and monitoring the propeller pitch and engine speed on ships of all sizes. The system is also designed to control and monitor controllable pitch thrusters. The system is easy to upgrade and extend, easy to install and delivers highly accurate positioning.     HIGH ACCURACY
    The accuracy of the piston positioning is significantly improved compared to traditional systems. This is achieved through higher resolution in position measurements and better control over the hydraulics.
    HIGH RELIABILITY
    The system contains no trimmer potentiometersand fewer cables compared to a more traditional electronic system. All settings are stored in a non-volatile memory.
    SMALL UNITS WITH SERIAL COMMUNICATIONS BUS
    Small units enable easy retro-fit and incorporate a serial bus enabling two or more units to be easily interconnected. For example, one unit could be on the bridge and another in the engine room.
    LOCAL INTERFACE WITH LCD DISPLAY
    All units have a LCD display with clear graphics making it easy to read the system data. Settings, faults and warnings are shown in plain text simplifyingtrouble-shooting.
    NMEA-0183 COMPATIBLE VDR PORT
    An NMEA-0183 compatible port is provided as standard equipment so that an easy connection can be made to VDR systems. For ships that require VDR, it is often more cost effective to replace an old propulsion control system with the RCS 3000 than to buy analogue interface units for the VDR system.

    The Remote Control MPC 800 enables the crew to control and oversee CP propellers and thrusters for all types of vessels. It gives you clear information on graphical displays – at all control stations.
    The system utilizes the latest microprocessor technology and is specially designed by Caterpillar Propulsion.

    MPC 800 is a powerful control system specially designed for controlling CP propellers and thrusters in all types of vessels.
    The control panels have daylight readable graphical displays, which can be easily configured to control or interface with a wide range of supplementary systems including: clutches, PTH systems, shaft brakes, joysticks, DP systems, VDR and conning systems.
    A number of service modes can also be configured, including different combinator curves and constant speed modes. The system uses modern field bus technology with duplicated bus and electronics for maximum redundancy. The serial field bus significantly reduces the required wiring. The duplicated bus and electronic circuits ensure full functionality of the system in the event of a total failure of one of the electronic branches.
    The system operates on two separate 24V DC supplies, one for each electronic branch.
